What this actually is

A Japa maid or postpartum attendant who has done this many times before. The first six weeks are the ones families most often try to manage alone and most often should not; the work covers the mother’s recovery as much as the newborn’s routine.

What is included

  • Newborn bathing, swaddling, nappy care and sleep routine
  • Postpartum support for the mother, including traditional massage on request
  • Feeding support and night waking
  • Sterilising, laundry for the baby, and nursery hygiene
  • Handover notes to the family each day

What is not

  • Clinical lactation consultancy and paediatric assessment, both brokered
  • Vaccination administration — coordinated, not performed
